about

From deep beneath the Earth's crust, we could feel the gigantic hum, wafting mindlessly upward, casting cracks through the stone, heat through the soil. Nothing had been the same since the diving trip, when Charlie insisted we use the old mariner's map to enter the strange wreck. It seemed like any other sunken ship we'd explored, until we found what used to be the anchor, covered in weird barnacles that glowed blue. Bert touched one, and somehow, we all felt it...somewhere, wherever this ship probably dropped anchor, something opened its eyes. Hundreds of them, burning from the salt water grave it had been stuck inside for centuries. We surfaced as quickly as we could, and Bert's hand started to shake real bad. We told each other we just needed to get back to port, and burn the damn map so no one else could find their way down there again. Charlie was the only one of us who laughed the whole way back, a hollow, whimpery laugh. When we stepped onto the sand of the beach, it was cold. The sky was a strange shade of purple, and that's when we heard it...the sound of plates shifting far beneath our feet. We gave it a way out. We gave it a fucking way out of wherever it had been locked up, or marooned, and now it was free.
